Some things haven’t changed – in the UK today the authorities often don’t mind Christians doing good, just so long as they don’t do it in Jesus’ name.

I love the logic of the Sanhedrin here: they’ve done a miracle (ie, something good), but we must stop it spreading.

People who love others seek their good no matter how it comes about. People who love power would rather see their subjects suffer than have their needs met by the ‘wrong’ people or in the wrong way.
