This is one of those commands that we regularly ignore, isn’t it? In fact, people who tack on ‘Lord willing’ after every statement of intent often come across as weirdly pious. It can even become an empty ritual that we say because we ought to, rather than something that actually affects how we live.

I wonder how it would change things if we lived more as though life was unpredictable and God might do anything at any moment? How does that for with being responsible about things like planning, saving, investing in a personal pension etc?

It’s a challenging verse…no wonder we routinely ignore it!
